Transforming Africa’s Food Supply Chain
AgTech has over the last twelve months engaged with over 1000 smallholder farmers and market vendors across Sierra Leone, to understand the root causes of the current food shortage in the country.
From all estimates, post-harvest loss (up to 50%) is reported by smallholder farmers and market vendors as one of the key drivers of food scarcity across the country. Poor road conditions, lack of dedicated transportation and adequate storage facilities are some of the key challenges farmers face. The lack of timely access to market has far reaching implications for both farmers and market vendors, including loss of earnings, reduced profitability and business continuity.
Our integrated food supply chain solution makes it easier for smallholder farmers and market vendors to buy and sell their produce without losing volume and value. Our e-commerce platform gives market vendors access to a large assortment of farm produce, our trucks pick up produce from farm gate and deliver them directly to market vendors, and our storage warehouse facility can be accessed for repackaging and food preservation, particularly for perishables.
By aggregating demand from market vendors, we are creating a ready-made market for farmers that supports business growth, margin growth and consistency.

Improving Food Hygiene and Sanitation
The movement of food produce, particularly perishables, from farm gate to market, is laced with sanitary challenges and exposes produce to a variety of contaminants, posing significant threats to food safety and subsequent trade both internal and external. The seemingly lack of enforceable sanitary standards and resources to implement such standards, leaves the production of food in Sierra Leone at risk of falling short of the global sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
At AgTech, we are bringing and enforcing better food hygiene standards via working with smallholder farmers to introduce and uphold global standards right across the supply chain. Our trucks, storage and packaging solutions are all designed to meet sanitary standards
